FoodWorks gave Bria Evans a fresh start after she lost her job in physical therapy, and now she is literally giving others the same opportunity through her own 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
For more than 30 years, Ben has been helping organizations raise awareness and inspire action by creating compelling narratives. And since 2018, Ben has been the Maryland Food Bank’s Staff Writer, elevating the voices of food-insecure neighbors to further the Maryland Food Bank’s mission of feeding people, strengthening communities, and ending hunger for more Marylanders.

As the state’s leading hunger resource, it is our responsibility to balance the immediate issues that hunger presents to individuals, with the need to keep an eye on trends in the state overall, so we continue to be the resource our neighbors need us to be.
Innovating ways to help Marylanders make healthier eating choices is something that we consistently and proudly do through the culturally inclusive foods that we source and distribute statewide to our neighbors in need.
Ashlie Church, our Nutrition Coordinator, took a deep dive into the food we source from partnerships with local farmers, fishermen, ranchers, and other producers and found that it’s easier than you might think to have healthy and tasty meals featuring all Maryland foods.
During the summer months, children are more likely to experience food insecurity. With continued uncertainty about the high cost of goods, the job market, and the overall economy, this summer has the potential to be especially challenging for Maryland families.
